Uwe Bressem - Creator of a mysterious parallel universe

By WALTRAUD SCHWAB, 24.12.2002

"Enigmatiker" that's what he calls himself, Uwe Bressem, the illustrator of our Christmas-edition.

Before the 42-year-old became mysterious and cryptic he was a chef in five-star hotels and a fan of everything that flies. Gladly would he have founded a Society for the Abolition of Gravity. Because this idea withstands all physical laws, and offends basic principles. Bressem wants that at least his phanatsy remains weightless. Of the latter he has more than enough. His fabulous creatures fit no conventions. In the miraclous country of the citizen of Berlin you´ll find octopusses which fall in trance, dreamers falling in love with their shade on first sight, famous birds in shoes just walking along. Instead of writing down their adventures, Bressem paints his stories on stamps and gets them to fly as air mail sendings.

During doing so he became a Mailart artists. Over the years whereas in real life he worked for many years as tenant at the cafeteria in the city hall of Wedding. There he developed his own "RabARTmarkensystem", an art donation stamp and a stamp for the rescue of the Cargolifter. The "Miniaturephantastic" has big plans for 2004, when the sugar museum celebrates its hundredth birthday. Bressem will rediscover the missing stamp collection of the Polly Saccharina. The collection will be found in the city of SUESSEN(sweet)in the Allgaeu.

For our Christmasedition of the taz Bressem had his fantastic paralelluniverse expanded. So that those who did no get any presents on time do not stand around with empty hands. He offers his fantastic world to them, covered as mental exercise courses of an other kind. All following the slogan: "Drop out of the frame once".
